City of Hope Event Raises $1.5 Million at Market

The annual Spirit of Life Gala raised $1.5 million for City of Hope at Market on Saturday night. The event was held at the Grandover resort to honor Jeff Seaman of Rooms To Go and Bob Sherman of Serta, who received this year's Spirit of Life Awards. A total of $2.5 million was raised this year by the home furnishings industry.

American Furniture Hall of Fame Elects New Officers

The Board of Directors of the American Furniture Hall of Fame Foundation Inc. has elected new officers and board members, as well as appointed new members to the Hall of Fame Legacy Board. Randy Ford, Leggett & Platt, Inc. has been elected Board president; George Cartledge, III, Grand Home Furnishings, first vice president; William D. Kimbrell, Star Furniture, second vice president; and Bill Markowitz, The Veneman Group, Inc, secretary-treasurer. Kurt L. Darrow, La-Z-Boy, Inc., will continue to serve on the executive committee as Board chairman.

Students Showcased at High Point Market

Twelve furniture design students from Appalachian State University shared their work on a national stage at High Point Market after being chosen finalists in the Perennial Wood Appalachian State Design Studio. The 12 finalists were chosen from among 23 students by Appalachian State University professors and representatives of Eastman, the sponsor of the studio and manufacturer of Perennial Wood, the material used by the students in their designs.

HPU Student Wins Raymond Waites Contest

High Point University senior and interior design major Annie Beuker has been named the national winner of the 2012 Raymond Waites National Design Competition. She was chosen from among 58 design entries nationwide for her design, “Humble Baroque.”
