Unlikely Object Gives Inspiration to an Environmentally Conscious Idea
A Los Angeles-based design team won the 2007 Corporate Professional Merit Award given by Source One, a major U.S. commercial wallcovering manufacturer, at the 2007 NeoCon Trade Fair last month. The deep plum, charcoal-lined wallcovering will enter a market testing process to determine if it will become part of a corporate collection.
Inspiration for the design “Conscientious Cam” came from an unlikely source: the automobile camshaft. “Our design was a symbol for the need to re-invent antiquated technology, and a reminder that creating an improved balance between consumption and waste is an integral part to the survival of mankind,” says principal designer, Sarah Barnard.
Congratulations to the Sarah Barnard Team for continuing to awaken all of us to the fact that we all have the potential to make changes using everyday objects as inspiration. And, keep your eye out for more great work from Sarah Barnard in future issues: a guest column is coming soon!
