High Point Market: World Premiere of Good Design
If you think the furniture business is small, specialized, and, well, an insider’s game, then it’s time to expand your view. The big picture is really about good design. And High Point Market is the premier market for show-stopping, innovative designs.
“High Point Market is the industry’s home for new products and design innovation, as well as the world’s most comprehensive product selection,” says Brian D. Casey, President and CEO of the High Point Market. “More new products make their debut at the High Point Market than in all the other markets combined.”
High Point Market’s role as the premier show for innovation is generating buzz in design circles across a range of industries, Casey adds. “Our weekly e-newsletters and video programming are now viewed by innovators in industries as diverse as entertainment, electronics and aviation. They see the value of the ideas, designs and products that our exhibitors bring to High Point Market.”
“Good design transcends a specific product or industry,” agrees design innovator Percival Lafer, founder of the Lafer Company. Known for its sleek furniture designs and unmatched luxury recliner chairs, the Lafer Company has achieved something of a cult status for design aficiandos. Lafer designed the MP Lafer, a classically-styled car that became a symbol of taste and elegance and is now a rare find for car collectors. Lafer is also the man behind the iconic blue and green telephone booths in Brazil that gained international notice in the 1970s.
Lafer’s “Billie” recliner, a leather and chrome beauty, plays the lead in a new print ad touting the High Point Market. The chair is, literally, center stage under the headline “The Premier Market for World Premieres.”
“High Point Market has always been a place to see what is new to get inspired about our business,” says Leif Petersen, who represents Lafer and other contemporary furniture manufacturers through his firm, Leif Petersen, Inc. “More and more, High Point Market is known for design in the world of design.”
The new Lafer chair designs, along with an original MP Lafer auto will be front and center on the Plaza at 220 Elm throughout Market. Mr. Lafer will also host a gathering of MP Lafer owners, who will be showcasing their cars in High Point. Market-goers can find out more about Lafer furnishings by visting the Leif Petersen showroom 220 Elm, Space 328.
