220 ELM SPOTLIGHTS DESIGNERS ON THE PLAZA
220 Elm is putting design in the spotlight this October with special exhibits in the 220 Elm Plaza from Lafer Designs and Naoto Fukasawa. Both shows run daily during Market from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In the industry, Lafer Company is known for its sleek furniture and luxury recliner chairs, but its reputation goes further. Percival Lafer designed the MP Lafer, a classically styled car that became a symbol of taste and elegance and is now a rare find for car collectors. Lafer is also the man behind the iconic blue and green telephone booths in Brazil that gained international notice in the 1970s. Market goers can check out the MP Lafer automobile (one of only 4,000 ever produced) alongside the newest Lafer chair designs at the 220 Elm exhibit. The company offers its furniture through Leif Petersen, Inc. at 220 Elm, Space 328.
Also on the Plaza at 220 Elm will be some of the best-designed consumer products at the Déjà Vu exhibit by renowned designer Naoto Fukasawa. For three decades, Naoto Fukasawa has been an influential designer of products as diverse as furnishings, cell phones, paper shredders, dinnerware and watches. His approach to making consumer products intuitive and appealing has earned him more than 50 design awards in Europe and America. He was the featured designer at the Conran exhibition last May at the ICFF Show and he was one of the two featured designers at the January 2007 Cologne show for the “Ideal House” project.
