Those searching for educational opportunities will find an all-star speaker lineup again on tap at the International Home Furnishings Center (IHFC). Market fave Mary Liz Curtin, whose Clawson, Michigan-based retail store, Leon & Lulu garnered an ARTS-Award nomination less than two years after its opening, is the latest addition to the roster. Addressing marketing on the Web in her session, “From Retail to E-Tail,” Curtin will discuss tips for beginners, strategies for experienced e-marketers, and how to market on the world’s largest marketplace, eBay.
Other high-powered highlights include award-winning Atlanta-based interior designer, Suzanne Kasler—whose luxurious and comfortable designs have been featured in every major national design magazine including Elle Décor, House & Garden, House Beautiful, Veranda and Southern Accents. She’s set to present “High End Mixed With More Affordable Pieces” at an International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA) Carolinas Chapter and IHFC-sponsored luncheon on Tuesday, April 8th. “Bold Strokes: Using Art In Glamorous Interiors” will be presented by New York designer, Jamie Drake on Wednesday, April 9 at another noon luncheon co-sponsored by IFDA and IHFC. With a natural flair for inviting modern interiors, Drake is equally comfortable mixing fresh, contemporary elements into traditional spaces. A book signing of Drake’s New American Glamour will follow the session.
Expert HGTV commentator Libby Langdon, from the hit show, “Small Space, Big Style,” will present a designer’s view into the rapidly growing market of small space consumers. In her session “Maxing Out the Convertible Market: The Small Space Consumer,” Langdon will assess the design tactics, insights and techniques used to make the most use of small space. Presentation is Friday, April 11 at 9a.m.
Michelle Lamb, senior editor of The Trend Curve and internationally known trend forecaster, takes on “Visioning The Future: Trend Insights For 2009 and 2010” on Monday, April 7 at 12 noon, while retailers interested in learning how to host great in-store events should check out Lynni Megginson of L&M Designs. Her talk, “Conducting Successful Events In Your Store” takes place on Thursday, April 10 at 9a.m. Lenni’s blend of humor, grass roots marketing and common-sense retailing make this seminar a “how-to” for retailers who want to set themselves apart from competitors.
“Styles, Trends And Colors,” presented by Home Accent Today’s editor-in-chief Jenny Heinzen York at noon on Friday, April 11, offers an exclusive look at what’s hot and on-trend for Spring and includes a look at the color forecast for 2009. Finally, on Saturday, April 12 at noon, don’t miss Becky Ralich Spak, senior designer, color marketing and design at Sherwin-Williams and “Color. It’s What We Do.”
