Head’s up history-buffs: The High Point Museum is hosting the second in its series of public forums dedicated to topics associated with furniture industry history, Tuesday, March 25, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the High Point Museum, 1859 E. Lexington Avenue.

The session will consider the common chair as a furniture form that continues to be designed and redesigned from a variety of perspectives, including aesthetic and ergonomic. Panelists include Brent Skidmore, director of the craft campus at UNC-Asheville; Bill Bongaerts, principal of Beaufurn LLC, Winston-Salem; W.C. Page of P&P Chair Company, Asheboro, makers of the famous Kennedy rocker; and Mark Scott, tourism representative from Thomasville, Chair City.

Free and open to the public, “This session will offer participants the opportunity to look at chairs in a whole new light,” says Ellen Denker, director of the Furniture Heritage project. Future session topics include furniture design, upholstery, photography, veneer and, of course, the High Point Market, all leading up to the City of High Point’s 150th anniversary in 2009.
