Property Brothers Make Market Magic

Drew & Jonathan Scott discover inspiration & innovation in the “frenzy of creativity”

“Where else do we find 75,000 mentors, all in one place, totally focused on the absolute latest in design, products, and trends?” said Drew Scott during an interview at Market. “This is a unique opportunity to go shoulder to shoulder with movers and shakers of the industry and make lasting connections. It’s a frenzy of creativity with an exponential buzz that involves everyone here!”

With a full agenda that included serving as Keynote speakers, supporting their highly successful Scott Living for Coaster Furniture brand, constantly updating their millions of social media followers, and taking selfies with ecstatic fans, the Scott Brothers embraced Market with enthusiasm, humor and a level of accessibility unusual for such big stars.

“Whether renovating homes on our HGTV shows, developing collections for Scott Living, or offering advice in our books, it’s about making life easier and solving problems,” said Jonathan. “Success comes from building the right team, surrounding ourselves with experts and taking risks.” They admitted that their first attempt at furniture design resulted in pieces that they couldn’t afford to make. “We needed a partner that would honor the integrity of our vision for products crafted from materials that would last at a price that wouldn’t break the bank. Style was the easiest part. The challenge was to create versatility. We wanted to offer pieces built for modular living.”

Finding just the right partner with Coaster, they designed a line that reflects how people truly live, based on their real-life experiences renovating homes for their five HGTV shows. “This line is our legacy, and it’s built to last,” said Drew. “We’re big guys, so it’s a big collection,” said Jonathan, noting that their ‘full-size’ photos scattered throughout the showroom were a foot shorter than the 6’4” brothers. Tanya Dulyaba, an interior designer from Kill Devil Hills, NC, who visited the Coaster showroom and placed an order as a result of the Scott Brother’s compelling in-person sales pitch, said, “They are much taller than I expected! And they are so cool, funny, and real!”

The stars of HGTV’s Property Brothers share stories of building the Scott Living brand

While the Scott Brothers and their team strategically worked Market to collect inspiration, build relationships and strengthen their brand, they also shared their world class advice with a packed audience in their “Big Picture, Small Details: Why We Sweat the Small Stuff” Keynote presentation. Crammed with entertaining videos, fun stories (such as the artist who wanted to include a life-size nude painting of her husband in the reno), and insider trivia (Jonathan sneaks an owl and plaid into all his designs), the high-energy performance also conveyed valuable tips for succeeding in a highly competitive industry.

“Jonathan and Drew’s recommendations added great value to my trip to High Point,” said Dulyaba. “On my very next project, I used their ideas for making a small budget go further by adding designer touches like two-tone kitchen cabinets and focusing on one eye-catching feature in every room.”

Deirdre Marvin of Crabtree Lane Design in Northbrook, IL, seeks out the celebrity designers at every Market, finding it inspiring to hear their stories firsthand, and to learn how they have achieved their success and their forecasts for future trends. “It’s one thing to watch the Property Brothers and follow their careers in the media, but the chance to see them in person, ask them questions, and experience their global brand perspective has created an exceptional Market memory, and my clients are all very impressed!”
